"My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke

In this poem, the author rhymes in every other verse. It consists of four stanzas, and I noticed omethinginteresting with the punctuation. In every stanza, on the second verse of each stanza is a semi colon except for the last stanza which is only a comma. There is also a period at the end of each stanza. I found this interesting because I haven't encountered a pattern like that before.
From what I understand, the girl in the poem is dancing on her father's feet, like we all used to do when we were little. The girl seemed to be talking to her dad, but it seems like she was telling him from the future. It was a very interesting poem to read and I enjoyed analyzing it. I rarely find poems that rhyme now, so it was nice to finally see one! \

  1. That's an interesting pattern you found in the poem! Try to write a little more next time though! It's good that you payed close attention to things like punctuation, it shows that you really did analyze the poem well.

  2. Caitlin, I'm glad you are looking at punctuation, but you need to look at much more than that for a thorough analysis. Look for all the techniques being used, as well as diction, tone, theme, etc. What is your evidence for the conclusions you give in your second paragraph?
