Dear Classmates of Dr. D's English Block 2,

It was fun having class with all of you. We made a lot of jokes and we had a good time, when we weren't doing work. I enjoyed working with those who I was partnered with, and hope to see some of you in English next year. I believe that as a class, we worked very hard and were successful on everything we did - tests, quizzes, vocabulary cards, etc.
I hope that all of you will continue to keep up the hard work next year! We all did so well this year, and I hope our hard work pays off next year.
Again, it was great working with you guys, and I can't wait to be a sophomore next year and see all of our progress!!
Best,
 Caitlin.

Participation Review

This year I believe that I participated well enough, but I lacked really the "talking" part of class. I took diligent notes everyday when needed, and use those notes for studying. I am really still very shy, and do not like to talk in class and will stay to myself most of the time, unless I HAVE to talk in class. I plan to stay this way, because I can't seem to get over my shyness.
I definitely DO NOT engage in conversations, knowing that I barely talk in class anyway. So I believe that yes, I do pay attention in class, knowing that English is in fact my hardest class.

Seniors 2012

So this week was the last week for the Seniors. I'm going to miss all of my senior friends so much. I'm sure they'll do really well in their colleges, and I'm very excited that a lot of them are staying and going to LSU. I've developed really close relationships with some seniors, and they will be missed greatly.
Today was a really hard day for most everyone, and most of us ended up crying. And when Neal brought the Lion King, all of the students in that class signed his shirt and continued to watch the Lion King until Mufasa's death scene, which at that point I was bawling.
So yeah, that was pretty much my week. I plan to go see a movie or have a coffee with Laura tomorrow.

Gravity

Okay I absolutely ADORE this song right now. It's called "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles, who is by the way, an amazing singer!! I just thought that I should share the lyrics with you guys to see what you think the meaning of this song is!

Something always brings me back to you
It never takes too long
No matter what I say or do
I'll still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone

You hold me without touch
You keep me without chains
I never wanted anything so much
Than to drown in your love and not feel your rain

Set me free, leave me be
I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity
Here I am and I stand so tall
Just the way I'm supposed to be
But you're on to me and all over me

Oh, you loved me 'cause I'm fragile
When I thought that I was strong
But you touch me for a little while
And all my fragile strength is gone

I live here on my knees
As I try to make you see
That you're everything I think I need
Here on the ground
But you're neither friend nor foe
Though I can't seem to let you go
The one thing that I still know is that
You're keeping me down
Oooh

Keeping me down
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

You're on to me, on to me and all over

Something always brings me back to you
It never takes too long...

Writing This Year

This year I believe that my writing has not improved, even though I tried to change my writing techniques, the grades only worsened.. I thought I was doing my best for these papers, because I really do try my best to get a good grade on these essays, but I didn't prove myself this year.
In almost all of my writing, I got a comment that my writing was not following the rubric, which I had talked with the teacher about. She suggested reading over the instructions more carefully and I took that and followed her advice, but I guess I still didn't get it. I continued to get these comments about not following instructions and became really confused about everything. "There is a lot to like here, but there is little scene, no controlling idea, little sense of focus." This was a comment from my first paper. When I turned it in, I felt like I was going to receive an exceptional grade on the paper, and an 82 is fine, but the grades continued to deteriorate over time.
On one of my most recent papers, I received yet again, an 82. This was the only paper I believe I actually did sort of well on. After rewriting the literary analysis paper, I finally turned it in, receiving "A's" and "B's" on all of the Ideas except for Support in the Thesis which I thought was the best part of my paper, and I never understood this.
I've learned that I need to work on Citations and MLA Format more. In almost every comment section of all of my papers, I was told to work on citations and MLA Format. I guess I ignored those comments and focused more on the depths of the paper itself. I think that sophomore year will work out better for me now that I've learned to understand writing all together better, I suppose.
I'm going to continue to write for fun, even though it may not be as good as some of my other writings. I'll continue to write in my free time, and hopefully I'll get better not only as I get older but as I mature more in my thinking and writings.

Outside Reading

This week I just did my homework and read the poems, and read some others in there as well. I had a lot of trouble trying to annotate the four poems that we had to do. I found it very difficult, and I'm still currently working on them. I've tried my best to try and understand how to annotate these correctly, and I've asked for help with them.
Over the break, the EHS concert band went to Europe! So, on the plane, most of us read SkyMall and People magazines, which I was included. There are a lot of interesting things in SkyMall that are useless, pointless, but at the same time, would be fun to have at home.

"Called Out in the Dark" by Snow Patrol ((Song Analysis))

                                                             "Called Out In The Dark"

It's like we just can't help ourselves
'Cause we don't know how to back down
We were called out to the streets
We were called in to the towns

And how the heavens, they opened up
Like arms of dazzling gold
With our rain washed histories
Well they do not need to be told

Show me now, show me the arms aloft
Every eye trained on a different star
This magic
This drunken semaphore

And I

We are listening
And we're not blind
This is your life
This is your time

We are listening
And we're not blind
This is your life
This is your time

I was called out in the dark
By a choir of beautiful cheats
And as the kids took back the parks
You and I were left with the streets

Show me now, show me the arms aloft
Every eye trained on a different star
This magic
This drunken semaphore

And I

We are listening
And we're not blind
This is your life
This is your time

The song "Called Out in the Dark" has many poetic elements that I noticed, and therefore chose the very song to analyze. The lyrics above do not count as length, but I did want to show the readers what I outlined and highlighted and what I thought about each thing.

So first off, the pink-ish colour, which looks like this. The band used the phrase "We were called __" and followed with either "in" or "out.", which was shown in red. I noticed the pattern of "opposites" and decided it was somewhat important to the lyrics themselves. Next is the yellow colour. This indicates the rhymes in each stanza and in the refrain "This is your life, This is your time." In each stanza, a rhyme occurs with every other phrase. In the sixth stanza, however, the rhymes occur in each phrase, which I thought was interesting. In the orange colour, the lyrics repeat "show me" which again I thought was interesting. This phrase repeats twice throughout the song. The repetitive words add a little "something" to the song all together, and I think personally, things like that make the song interesting. I listen for patterns in songs, I know, it's weird, but oh well. The dark blue represents in the refrain, the phrases "This magic, this drunken semaphore" which I keep thinking rhymes with the previous phrase "Every eye trained on a different star." It seems to just "fit" like a puzzle piece to one another. It's one of those things that kind of just "works." Finally, the light blue represents the enjambment of "And I" and "We are listening" within the refrain of the song. Recently, I've been looking for different caesuras and enjambments throughout poems. Although this enjambment is not emphasized in the song, it is clearly emphasized through the way the lyrics are put together.

"My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke

In this poem, the author rhymes in every other verse. It consists of four stanzas, and I noticed omethinginteresting with the punctuation. In every stanza, on the second verse of each stanza is a semi colon except for the last stanza which is only a comma. There is also a period at the end of each stanza. I found this interesting because I haven't encountered a pattern like that before.
From what I understand, the girl in the poem is dancing on her father's feet, like we all used to do when we were little. The girl seemed to be talking to her dad, but it seems like she was telling him from the future. It was a very interesting poem to read and I enjoyed analyzing it. I rarely find poems that rhyme now, so it was nice to finally see one! \

Outside Reading

This week I continued to read "Unwind." The book is getting very interesting, and I look forward to moving farther into the book. The book has gotten more and more intense over time, and I'm excited to see what happens at the end.
This week I read for more than 200 minutes. I couldn't put the book down! Hopefully next week I'll be able to finish it and then write a free post on what it was about, but not to spoil it!

Outside Reading

I am currently reading "Unwind" by an author I can't seem to remember the name of, but I'll post his name in the comments once I figure it out. "Unwind" is about three teens who are destined to be "unwound" or "taken apart, while still living."
I can't wait to get farther into the book, because I finally found a book that meets my standards for "a good book." I would reccomend this book to freshman and sophomores, because it is on that level. It is set in 3rd person omnicient, so sometimes it is hard to understand.

Saturday-Sunday 200 minutes.

My Cousin

So this week, my cousin Lexi is over, and she'll be shadowing me on Monday. She is a sophomore that goes to a high school in Illinois. I can't wait for some of you to meet her. I think the ones that do meet her and have classes with me will get along with her very nicely.
Lexi is my absolute favourite cousin.  She is a lot like me. She is very funny and is very outgoing. I believe that she will enjoy her Monday at EHS, and I hope all of you will welcome her there as well

Play Practice

Play practice was okay tonight. It dragged on for what seemed like 5 hours, when it was only two. I enjoy working with the EHS play community, as it's really fun. I hope to continue doing backstage work for the upcoming EHS plays.
I messed up again today but I'll have to write down what I have to do at certain times. Actually, it's not the timing, its just where to put the wall. Ginny is helping me with that though. I can't wait for Wednesday night through Friday night! Y'all should come see the play!

Sound Of Music

So Mr. Ponjuan asked me to work backstage for the upcoming play "The Sound Of Music" that EHS is putting on  for the 21-23 of March. I had my first play practice on Friday, and it was my first time doing anything on set, and I believe I did pretty well for not knowing what to do.
I have another play practice at 4:30 till 8, and hopefully I'll be able to do better than last time. I really hope I'll be able to remember exactly what to do when the real thing comes about. Wish me luck!

Next Weekend (:

So, next weekend is the 17th. Elan dance (: But the weekend after that, my best friend-cousin is coming from Illinois (: I'm really excited. Lexi and I are just like each other and we get along really well. This summer we plan to do Chambre Winds at LSU for a camp-thing.
I'm very excited that Lexi is coming over because I haven't seen her since the summer, probably even earlier. Maybe one day I'll bring her to school (: She's a sophomore, but, whatever (:

Might be joining the Poetry Team? Maybe?

So I've been thinking about joining the poetry team. I'm still not sure if I want to because I already have a lot on my hands right now, and I need to focus on school work. I've been told that I'm great at poetry and I should really join a team or something, so here's my chance.
I still don't know if I want to or not, I don't want to look like a total nerd. But it does sound fun. I like writing in my free time (although I rarely have it anymore) and maybe this would be good for me to get my mind off of things. (:

Outside Reading

I didn't enjoy Nervous Conditions too much. I have yet to read Ch. 10, but I have a feeling it's not going to be a great ending. I never really got into the book, like I do with other genres such as action or horror. The book was very confusing and I didn't understand it too much.
The book went by extremely slow for me. It was boring, and didn't catch my attention much at all. I had trouble staying focused on the book, which is not a good thing. I would forget certain parts that might have been important that I didn't catch. Overall, I give this book 2/5 stars. Not too great for the action/thriller/horror book kind of person.

Watching TV with a Chicken in a Plastic Bag.

So this weekend I decided to get out of the house. I didn't go to the barn because my horses' feet hurt bad. I went to my aunts house instead. My aunt Sheila has chickens in her backyard so I did some good ol' farm work. She owns three chickens-Waffles, Cupcake, and Bonnie.
First, I gathered their eggs. Waffles, the mean chicken, tried to attack me.. Well, I had to put her in the coop to keep from pecking my legs. I brought them into the house and put them in the refrigerator. When I got finished feeding, seeding, and cleaning the coop, I got bored with watching TV. So I decided to bring Cupcake, the nice chicken inside. My aunt said to put her in a bag so in case she had to go to the bathroom she wouldn't do it all over the house. So there I was, watching TV with a chicken in a plastic bag.

New Trampoline!!!

So, here's the exciting news. We got a trampoline! I have spent the last 8 days on it and I can finally do a front flip. It's so much fun. Adrian showed me how to do it and I hit my back and neck a few times but then I could do it right and it was awesome.
My mom likes to jump on it too.. It's really funny, because she'll fall over a lot and it's hilarious. Sometimes, me and my dog will go out there and just lay on the trampoline and watch the sky/enjoy the awesome weather. So yeah, that was the highlight of my Mardi Gras week :)

Mardi Gras Break!

So, we didn't go anywhere wild this past week. I didn't ride my horse, because his leg still hurts. My dad's employee, Adrian, came over because he was waiting for his next job. Turns out, he's still here. Something really exciting happened, and I'm saving my next blog post for that.
The only travelling we did was to Milton, Florida for a model horse show. One of my models got reserve champion in Original Finish class. I was really excited. So, basically, that was my week. I have a new favorite song, that I just came across recently. It's called "Echo" by Jason Walker. It's a really great song. I suggest you listen to it (:

G-Force Update 2/12/12

Okay so G-Force has been acting really weird. For the Spanish project, Neal had to ride him. So we went out to the pasture and he freaked out. He bucked and kicked all the way to the front of the pasture. So, we retrieved him and brought him back to the same spot and he did it again.
I have no idea what went on. He's never done that before, so it was really weird. But, we finally got the shot that we needed. Thank goodness no one got hurt. Maybe it's something to do with that leg thing, or maybe he was just having an off day. Not sure, but whatever it is, I hope it's fixed. Fast. :/

Spanish Movie Project

Well, yesterday was a blast. For our Spanish project, we had to film a five minute 'short film' in Spanish. So, my group consists of Jade, Ben, and Neal. Ben, Neal and I went out to the barn to film the murder scene of the movie, and we ended up having a really great time.
Neal is a gymnast, so when he rode the horse, he did a little vaulting. Whenever you have time, check out this video.  Well, we still have another half of the movie to do today, so, we'll update y'all later, and hopefully upload the movie to here as well.

Woman in Black Critique? (G-Force Update 2/5/12..)

Alright, so I didn't go and see G-Force this week. So the title should really be something else, but I don't know what to put it as. So, I went to the talent show! It was really great. I got Cody Dillard doing his stand up act on camera, so I'll be editing that and posting it soon.
I went to go see Woman in Black too. Don't ever go see that movie. It's really really scary. Most of us screamed whenever we saw a face or something, and it was just really creepy. I'm really tired because I didn't sleep last night :S So yeah, if you wanna be scared out of your mind, go on and see Woman in Black. Prepare to not sleep ever again.

I'm a.. Entrepreneur?

Okay, so I've made a lot of money this past week. It's really weird. Okay so here's the story. When I was little I collected model horses.. Well, they're still in my room. So I decided to sell some of them, not all of them because some mean something to me. I ended up making $250 on these plastic horses. People really like these things.
I think I'm becoming pretty good at selling stuff! So, the morale of the story is: if you have anything that looks collectable, sell it. It can be worth some real money. I was surprised at what these guys were worth, so if you have something hanging around, you never know! :D

If You're a Bird, I'm A Bird.

"Do you think in another life, I could of been a bird?"
   "What do you mean?"
"Like reincarnation!"
   "I don't know."
"I think I could!"
"Say I'm a bird."
   "You're a bird."
"Now say that you're a bird too."

"If you're a bird, I'm a bird."

<3 Quote of my life.

G-Force Update 1/29/2012

Whoo! So G-Force is doing a whole lot better. His leg no longer hurts, and he's back to his lazy self. I did a lot of stuff today. I rode 3 different ways, it was really fun. So here's what I did today.
First, I got him out of the pasture. I took him inside and began to groom him. I went to my locker and found glittery stuff to put in his mane, so, naturally, I did. After that, I braided his mane to look all pretty. After tacking him up for western, I took him into the indoor arena. We did a little warm up, and he faked a limp so he wouldn't have to canter. But, I made him canter because he's just lazy, and smart. After a trail ride across the bridge, I decided to lunge him (without tack) over a few jumps. He did really well. So I put the dressage saddle on him and lunged him again. I decided that it was safe and I could trust him if I was on him while he jumped.
We hurdled towards the jump, and I swerved him around it. I thought I couldn't do it. I came around again and this time he kind of walked over it. 'one more time' I thought. This time we went a little faster and boy did he jump. It felt kind of like flying. I really enjoyed jumping him and next weekend maybe we'll jump higher. :)

Sadie's! :D

Whoo! Have a date for Sadie's :) Just wanted to let y'all know .Assignment posts will be posted tomorrow, by the way. This doesn't count.

G-Force Update 1/27/12

Alright, so going to the barn tomorrow. I'll have to check up on his leg. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to jump him. If his leg has continued to be sore, we're going to have to get him checked by the Vet. I'll let everyone know how he's doing tomorrow night, or Sunday morning. :)

G-Force update

So, as you know G-Force, my horse, has been doing really well. Up until yesterday that is. I went out into the pasture to get him and I noticed this big black mark on his front left leg. He had gotten into another fight with another horse. So, I led him in, it only looked like a scrape, and I tacked him up. I took g on a trail ride across the bridge and I felt a limp in his trot. I began to worry, because a limp leg can be a sign of lameness, or a permanent "Charlie horse" which can be fixed with a little work.
I untacked him and took him into the arena to lunge and jump him. Every time he came around to the jump, he refused it. That confirmed the sore leg. I took him out to the pasture and stretched his legs which can be dangerous.
I had to sit on one of the chopped logs and bring him near. Next I took my hand and pulled the back of his leg so he would raise it. After that, I would put his hoof on my leg, and if he kicked, it could of broken my leg, but fortunately, hes a goodboy so he wouldn't do that. I stretched both front legs and put some ointment on his sore. Hopefully next weekend I'll be able to jump him :)

Day at the Barn :D

Okay, so this is exciting. I haven't been to the barn in weeks, and finally I got to go today. After helping my aunt clip her chicken's wings, my dad and I headed out for the barn. I rode G-Force for a while, took him across the bridge to the "trail riding" barn, and came back. After that, I untacked him, charged up the camera and took him out for a lunge-lesson on jumping. G-Force is phenomenal. I got some great shots of him jumping.
I plan to try and jump him next weekend, and I hope I don't fall off.. He's supposed to be really good at jumping, but I've been riding western and dressage lately, so he hasn't really jumped with a person on him in over 3 years. I'm so excited to share the pictures! :D

My Dog Haley

Okay well this video is about my dog Haley, and she is the love of my life. Haley was adopted when she was just a puppy, and is now 8 years old. Every day, my mom says, Haley can hear the bus from a mile away, because she's always at the door when the bus comes 'round. She always, always, gets on the bed with me and puts her head in my lap when I do my homework, and my mom sometimes says she thinks of me as her own, because she is very protective. Her full name is Haley "Tiger" Jordan because of her brindle colouring.
I would do anything for this dog, she is just, my life. Everything about her is perfect; she has big brown lovable eyes and perky ears, but has a constant case of "morning breath." Haley considers my parents as the "alphas" and will wait in my room (on my bed by my side) until I fall asleep, then she'll crawl in with my parents for the rest of the night. I hope you love Haley as much as I do. :)

First post of 2012

Alrighty, so this is the first post of 2012! I don't expect anyone to follow me, I am an independent little gal over here. So just comment on my outside reading posts, or on this, for your assignment if you choose me. :) So welcome to my page, I'll also be posting updates and such on here about my dog, Haley. (hence, HaleyHound97) so this blogger thing, account, whatever is made for both english class and outside life. :)
